1936. The start of the Spanish Civil War. One of Spain's greatest playwrights – Federico García Lorca – is assassinated. His body was never found...

1 man bragged of his involvement that night. A man who hoped that 5 bullets, 1 dark hillside and 30 years of banned work would have the power to silence Lorca's voice. But his voice lived on. And the silencer becomes the silenced.

Federico García Lorca was a Spanish poet, dramatist and theatre director. His fame was born out of his phenomenally successful plays "Blood Wedding" "The House of Bernarda Alba" and "Yerma." and he has been proclaimed "the nearest thing to a pure genius," not only by noted historians but also other figures such as H.G. Wells and Rudyard Kipling.

Michael Bradford – Writer
Michael is an Associate Professor of Dramatic Arts and Director of Theatre Studies at the University of Connecticut and has written numerous plays that have been produced in New York. He became interested in Lorca whilst researching his work as part of his teaching and found he was intensely drawn to Lorca's poetic voice and his ability to infuse his heightened, beautifully wrought language throughout the wide sweep of genres he explored. “The fact that he was murdered so young seemed like a crime beyond the obvious. I imagined the beautiful work we were deprived of because of those men who stood so casually on that hillside in Viznar in 1936 and murdered the poet. All of this compelled me to know more about Garcia Lorca's actual life and death.”

Michael Bradford will be flying over from the States to attend the Premiere of Olives and Blood on October 23rd and will be holding a Q&A session after the performance.

Prav MJ – Director
Prav created Liminal Space Theatre company on 2010 as a platform for new writers and performers and was introduced to Michael through the African American Playwrights Exchange (AAPEX) founded by the play’s dramaturge Jaz Dorsey. She staged a reading of Olives and Blood, at Caravanserai Studios, London, UK (December 2010) and has been searching for the perfect space to stage a run ever since. Finally she has found it in Brixton East.

Brixton East
Brixton East is an exciting new theatre space just 5 minutes walk from Brixton tube. Once an old furniture warehouse the space has been lovingly restored to a bright immersive space whilst retaining it's original character and charm.

This performance of OLIVES AND BLOOD will be the first full production to be staged in the space. It seemed the perfect place to stage such an involved and intimate play and the perfect play to launch what will hopefully go on to be a leading theatrical venue.

Liminal Space has been using Brixton East for the last year to stage rehearsed readings of contemporary plays that provoke the audience to reflect on current issues.
