About: TERROR 2007!

Presented by The Sticking Place

‘Pulling out all the stops for this night packed to the cobwebby rafters.’ (Metro)

Acclaimed, experimental theatre company The Sticking Place, stage their fourth festival of Horror and Grand Guignol at the award-winning Union Theatre.

The Grand Guignol, made popular in late-Victorian Paris, became one of the most notorious theatrical events of its day. Citizens and celebrities alike would flock to the tiny theatre in Monmatre to be shocked and scared by the thrilling realism of stage horror. Now, in an age where terror has become the enemy, rather than something inside us, The Sticking Place invites you to re-examine your relationship with fear.

The Season includes: Noel Coward’s The Better Half (written for London's Grand Guignol in 1922 and never seen or published until now); classic French shocker Kiss Of Death in a new version by Tristan Langlois; and commissions from some of Britain’s most exciting contemporary playwrights including award-winner Mark Ravenhill (Shopping and F***ing; Mother Clapp’s Molly House), Lucy Kirkwood and Darren Ormandy.

Our Halloween Specials (October 29th, 30th and 31st) feature legendary theatre maverick
Ken Campbell (creator of the Science Fiction Theatre of Liverpool and Illuminatus for the Royal National Theatre) and his improvisation troupe, The School Of Night (fresh from their recent successes at The Royal Court and Shakespeare’s Globe).

Directors include Ben DeWynter (Resident Director Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady), Sarah Chew (Pramface, and Artistic Director Critical Mass), Tamara Harvey (One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Garrick, Whipping It Up, New Ambassadors) and Adam Meggido (Artistic Director The Sticking Place and creator of the Terror Seasons).

An evening of short horror plays, quirky cabaret and other oddities:

Suitable for adults only.

‘An unusual feature of the theatrical calendar, unquestionably imaginative
and unlike almost anything else you will see on the London stage.’(The Stage)

‘Massively imaginative … Darkly disturbing and funny.’ (Time Out)

‘Anarchic and eccentric, destined to chill you to the bone.’ (SFX)

‘Full-bloodied Gothic … If you are in two minds about how to celebrate Halloween, this portmanteau production of horror playlets from The Sticking Place ought to appeal.’ (What's On)

‘The dark, rain-lashed cobbles of Southwark and the cloak-and-dagger feel of the Union Theatre perfectly set the scene for the annual Festival of Horror Theatre.’ (London Lite)
