by Laurie Anderson
Genre(s): Musical

About: Homeland

Using the synthetic language of technology and the sensuous language of song writing, Homeland explores 21st century America and its obsessions with security and information, the relationship between fear and freedom, and the persistent new vocabulary of war.

The music, built on the foundation of groove electronics, is performed by a small ensemble with Anderson on violin, keyboards and samples. At the centre of the piece is her own voice, continuously shifting from a single point of view to that of a Greek chorus.

Premier performance artist Laurie Anderson is recognised worldwide as a groundbreaking leader in the use of technology in the arts. Over more than 20 years she has worked as a visual artist, composer, poet, photographer and filmmaker, producing works that range from simple spoken word performances to elaborate multimedia events. Anderson was recently awarded the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize for an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to mankindís enjoyment and understanding of life. Homeland will be the fourth production Anderson has brought to bite.
