About: Redhead

The wonderful and rarely produced REDHEAD won 5 TONY Awards when it opened in 1959, including Best Musical, it featured the legendary Gwen Verdon in the title role and marking the directorial debut of none other than Bob Fosse.
Set in 1900s London, following the murder of a young actress, the enterprising Simpson Sisters' Waxworks installs a tableau of the grisly deed. When muscle man Tom Baxter, the actress' friend, comes to complain, he meets Essie Whimple, a plain girl with a hyperactive imagination. Determined to see Tom again, Essie pretends she’s been attacked by the murderer, and so begins a romantic, fast-paced adventure involving cunning disguises, spine-tingling chases, startling visions, an ill-fated show at the Odeon Music Hall, and a cold-blooded killer on the loose – not to mention some great songs and high-spirited dancing!
Producer Adrian Jeckells is delighted to introduce three highly acclaimed creatives leading on this project: Director Hannah Chissick, Musical Director Sarah Travis and our own Head of Dance, Choreographer Mark Hedges. We are excited and honoured to have them with us. The show will be lit by lighting designer Andrew Ellis and once again designed by Nigel Hook.
