About: Whipping it Up

Following a fantastic critical reception and unprecedented demand, The Bush’s smash hit WHIPPING IT UP by Steve Thompson is to be extended for one week, now ending its run just before Christmas on Saturday December 23rd.

The show sold out completely in its first week, and audiences are now being given another chance to book for this hilarious political satire about the Machiavellian workings of the Whips’ Office in Westminster under a future Tory government.

Steve Thompson’s rapier-sharp play is directed by multi-award winning director and playwright Terry Johnson, and stars Richard Wilson as the Chief Whip, Robert Bathurst as his Deputy, Helen Schlesigner as Labour Opposition Whip, Lee Ross as a Junior Whip, Nicholas Rowe as a callow new MP and Fiona Glascott as a scheming parliamentary researcher.

“Steve Thompson's superbly entertaining new play…. Terry Johnson directs a masterful production, achieving a hurtling comic pace while also allowing for considerable depth and subtlety In the performances…. the sharpest new comedy of the year”
-Daily Telegraph

**** “a pungent satire on the parliamentary whips' office…. offers a fascinating insight into Westminster power games… The funniest political satire since Alistair Beaton's Feelgood”

***** “the play is smart, slickly plotted and essentially soft-centred. A world away from the cynicism of much political comedy, the keynote of ‘Whipping It Up’ is respect for the Whips… Terry Johnson gives the play an always entertaining production”
-Time Out – no. 1 Critics’ Choice

**** “Terry Johnson's production is top-notch and filled with fine performances”
-Mail on Sunday

**** "a rollicking, revealing comedy... Terry Johnson's hilarious production
keeps the energy level at full tilt”
-Sunday Express

**** “a vitriolic political comedy… Terry Johnson’s tight, nimble production is crowned
by Richard Wilson’s chief whip: an ageing walrus with the political loyalty of
a guard dog and the ethics of a jackal”
-Sunday Times
