About: The Kitchen Sink

Crex Theatre presents The Kitchen Sink

For just one week this September, a now-vacant EC1 pub will be transformed into a pop-up theatre venue for Crex Theatre’s production of The Kitchen Sink. More than just a pub, The White Lion’s popular bar will also feature a gallery space, hosting the works of emerging London artists. This brand-new arts venue – just a stone’s throw from Shoreditch High Street – will capture the intimacy so central to Wells’ heart-warming family drama.

With sequins, couscous, and lollipop ladies, Tom Wells’ depiction of a family in Withernsea, Yorkshire is funny and touching in equal measure. Kath’s kitchen sink is leaking, Martin’s milk float is falling apart, Billy’s portraits of Dolly Parton are a little revealing, and Sophie’s dreams of becoming a ju-jitsu teacher are disappearing down the plughole. With an original score by Jonathan Packham and a detailed kitchen design by Sarah Booth, Crex Theatre’s production balances the delicate humour and drama inherent in the script.

Crex Theatre’s team of young graduates is excited to bring The Kitchen Sink to the Barbican’s doorstep from the 24th September until the 2nd October. Following a previous run of sell-out performances to great critical acclaim, The Kitchen Sink promises to be an evening of heartfelt and hilarious comedy-drama.
