by Vivian Chinasa Ezugha
Genre(s): Drama

Tickets: £10

This is a A 60 minute, one woman show using food, speech, movement and sound. Have you ever been to Owerri or Enugu? Ever had egusi or ogbono soup with pounded yam? Do you know Ojukwu? Biafra, British Politics, Ibo Brexit is a new performance by Vivian Chinasa Ezugha. Looking at the concept of radicalisation; using history as a tool to uncover hidden stories, the show is about corruption, money, greed and courage. Audiences will be invited to sit in a circle, watch and listen as Vivian sings and moves with the stories of Biafra. Pounding Yam and Egusi, singing the British national anthem, the show will bring the past to the present; shifting between cultures and politics. Please note that no mobile phones, bags or coats will be allowed in the performance space. Audiences are invited to refrain from eating 2 hours before the performance. Audiences will be seated in a circular position.

‘Because of hair, here is a woman so powerful and commanding, men have to avert their gaze, pretend not to notice’ – Jackie – SPILL writing (on Because of hair; the dichotomy of culture and identity)

‘Holding our gaze in the process – we know, and she knows, that if she was white we’d read this work differently’ – The Scottish Herald (On Mammies and Jezzebels)
