About: FREDDIE, TED, and the DEATH of JOE ORTON

'Freddie, Ted, and the Death of Joe Orton' is both a tragi-comedy and a thriller written by fascinating new playwright, Don Cotter. Written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales and the untimely death of the author and playwright, Joe Orton.

ĎFreddie, Ted, and the Death of Joe Ortoní examines the devastating impact in the shift in the balance of power between two men at a time when homosexuality was considered a crime.

Brighton, England, 1960s. Middle aged Freddie, suffering from undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, has inherited a three bedroom house which he now shares with his younger partner, the aspiring musician, Ted. When Freddie intercepts a life-changing letter addressed to Ted, his fragile hold on reality begins to crumble.

Ray Rackham directs Don Cotterís third full length play. Set during a time when Mods and Rockers are fighting for supremacy across the seafronts of Britain, off-shore pirate radio stations are closing down; and there is the tragic, untimely death of the playwright Joe Orton.

ďBut thatís how things used to be. Itís 1967. Weíre legal now. No more living in fear. No more waiting for the dreaded knock upon the door. Times are changing for the better, Freddie, and we have to change with them. Thatís why Iím catching that train tomorrow. And thatís why you have to let me.Ē
