Only two years ago the World Bank declared that nearly two billion people live on less than $2 a day. In 2017, can we still claim ignorance of the deprivation and exploitation around the world?

The Fever, written by Wallace Shawn (known to most as the voice of the nervous Rex in Toy Story) is as pertinent today as it was in 1989. It examines our mostly unacknowledged collusion with a pervasive situation.

A well-to-do, cultured, politically unengaged but compassionate Western woman (played by Paola Dionisotti) wakes up “in the silence before dawn in a strange hotel room in a poor country where my language isn’t spoken” and where there is a ” small war going on” . She is shaking and shivering, and in no time at all finds herself examining the very foundations on which both her way of life and her way of thinking are based.

Depicting both a moral and a geographical clash of agendas from a single hotel room, and written with forensic wit and honesty, this intimate performance stretches both philosophical and political boundaries beyond any comfortable consensus.
