About: Romeo & Juliet, On Motifs of Shakespeare

Following the outstanding success of Mozart Dances (bite07), Mark Morris returns to bite with a new production of Romeo and Juliet set to Prokofiev's original score, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

With a radically different ending to that of today's well-known version, the score has never before been performed as the composer intended, and this exciting collaboration marks a truly historic moment in dance and in music.

Part of Dance Umbrella 2008

Mark Morris Dance Group was formed in 1980 and gave its first concert that year in New York City. The company's touring schedule steadily expanded to include cities both in the U.S. and in Europe, and in 1986 it made its first national television programme for the PBS series Dance in America. In 1988, the Dance Group was invited to become the national dance company of Belgium, and spent three years in residence at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. The company returned to the United States in 1991 performing across the U.S. and Europe. The company's London seasons have garnered two Laurence Olivier Awards. Mark Morris Dance Group is noted for its commitment to live music, a feature of every performance on its full international touring schedule since 1996.

The London Symphony Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras. Its many activities include an energetic and ground-breaking education and community programme, a record company (LSO Live), and exciting work in the field of information technology. Over a century after it was formed, the LSO still attracts the best players, many of whom also have flourishing solo and chamber music careers. The LSO also draws on an enviable roster of soloists and conductors, starting with Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev, LSO President Sir Colin Davis, and Daniel Harding and Michael Tilson Thomas as Principal Guest Conductors.
