Ida Barr: So this is Christmas...
On from 10 Dec 2008 till 23 Dec 2008
by Christopher Green
Genre(s): Comedy

About: Ida Barr: So this is Christmas...

Former music hall singer turned elderly rap star and purveyor of her own brand of RnB Artificial Hip Hop, Ida Barr is leaving her retirement home behind this Yuletide to bring you a ‘flava’ of Christmas in this interactive festive delight.

Get yourself comfy with a glass of warm sherry and a box of Quality Street, and enjoy some fresh rhymes and urban licks from ‘the People’s Pensioner’. With live mixing from hot young DJ Godslove, special guest artistes, a few rounds of Bingo for top (Poundstretcher) prizes and seasonal sing songs, this is a real Christmas cracker.

Performance time: 21:00 (also 17:00 20 Dec)
Running time: 90 mins/no interval

Age Guidance 16+

Post Show Talk 20 Dec (following 17:00 performance)

Written and performed by Christopher Green
Directed by Cal McCrystal
Designed by Alex Craig
Lighting by Andy Purves
With DJ Godslove Mensah

Commissioned by barbicanbite08

Last seen with Ursula Martinez in Office Party Xmas 2007, and as Tina C (bite06), Chris is one of the UK’s leading cabaret performers.

With the Duckie Collective he won an Olivier Award for C’est Barbican! (bite03 and bite04). As his cultural critic character Jedd O’Sullivan, he presented a bespoke performance called art/slash/pornaround the Barbican Art gallery’s Seduced exhibition. He regularly appears on BBC Radio 4, and has been commissioned by the V&A, Tate, RSC and the Science Museum.

‘Missy Elliott meets Marie Lloyd... Christopher Green writes brilliant gags.’ The Guardian

‘Ida Barr is leg-crossingly funny and occasionally heartbreakingly moving.’ The Times

‘Hilarious but affectionate portrayal of a Music Hall veteran. Her updated hip-hop act must be heard to be believed!’ The Guardian
