Tricycle Theatre
by Robert Massey
Genre(s): New Writing, Drama, Comedy

About: RANK

A darkly comic thriller, where loyalty, trust and friendship are just more chips to be thrown on the table, set in the criminal world of the north Dublin suburbs.

Fishamble, the company that presented Sebastian Barry's The Pride of Parnell Street at the Tricycle last autumn, returns with this seriously addictive new play. During 2008, Fishamble has been touring its highly acclaimed work in Ireland and to the US, France, Germany, Romania, Czech Republic and Edinburgh, supported by Culture Ireland.

"Great characters, well cast, with fine Irish actors...great lines that vividly colour the characters....this show at the suberb Tricycle venue had the audeince rocking with appreciative laughter.****" Ham and High

"Robert Massey's comedy (also) belongs wholeheartedly to the thriller genre.... stands as an example of that rare thing, a genuinely tense modern thriller.....a lot of fun*****" The Jewish Chronicle

"A thumping good plot told through well-drawn characters who invite the audience on to the stage and into their dialogue, well-paced direction...intelligent performances....It's a rare thing to find a play that amuses, thrills, is sharply written and well-performed and yet is untaxing and easily accessible" The Stage

"A cracking comedy thriller…one of the big hits of this year's Dublin Theatre Festival…beautifully judged…director Jim Culleton shuffles menace, high stakes anxiety and light relief in a carousel of black comedy…well worth catching." **** Daily Telegraph

"An enjoyable jaunt…filthily funny…after the interval, Jim Culleton's amiable production ratchets up a gear...the acting is spot on." The Guardian

‘Fishamble has backed a winner…a lot of laughs…a fun, accessible buddy story with a lot of tasty language and plenty of easy humour’ Metro (Dublin run)

"Massey's writing is sharply comic...yields much theatrical enjoyment" Metro

"I laughed my head off…real flair for rapid fire dialogue… a cross between The Sopranos and Father Ted…excellent." Sunday Tribune

"Fine performances all round...In highlighting the debt-ridden downside of the Celtic Tiger economy, Massey touches on the topical" The Times
