From Stardust to Life:
On from 24 Apr 2009 till 24 Apr 2009
by Chitraleka Dance Company

About: From Stardust to Life:

From Stardust to Life continues dance maestro, Chitraleka Bolar’s quest of bringing together the expression of science and myth and interpreting them through, Bharatanatyam — the beautiful Indian classical dance form and contemporary dance styles

In 2004, the Company extended the boundaries of what could be explored through dance when they toured their ecological drama, ‘The Story of C’. Now in a year celebrating the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and 150th anniversary of his world changing book, ‘The Origin of Species', From Stardust to Life continues the Company's examination of science, our lives and the planet.

See how Darwin's ideas link to 4000 years of Hindu understanding of our origins based on the ‘Dashavatara', a mythological study of evolution, charting the ten most famous incarnations of Vishnu, that explain how the Universe came into being.

The creative artistry of choreographers Hari Krishnan (artistic director of indance, a Toronto based South Asian dance company) and Chitraleka Bolar, complimented by a musical score, written by Praveen D Rao and Mark Lockett recreates a story of Time, Space, Life and Evolution.

The production is brought to life on stage by a cast of four dancers, combined with evocative digital imagery, multimedia projection and spectacular lighting

Chitraleka Bolar, Artistic Director of Chitraleka Dance Company, says, 'Chitraleka Dance Company works to develop access to a wide audience for Bharatanatyam. We achieve this as a dance-in-education company, creating performance, developing the art form and its practitioners, sharing and enhancing the experience of Indian dance through our work in a wide range of educational settings'
Chitraleka also leads a regular Youth dance company providing young people with intensive training, theory of dance and music, special skills for choreographing and opportunities to develop a repertoire of dances and short dance-drama productions. Chitraleka is currently the chair to the South Asian Faculty of ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), a leading dance examination board and is a member of the team that has developed a Bharatanatyam syllabus for training and examinations.
