About: Sonic Recycler5

SonicRecycler5 is an event showcasing many different strands of eclectic ideas in music, and promoting recycling concepts. With performers, DJ's, films, stalls and interactive presentations, it’s a packed evening of radical sounds in a lovely Thameside venue, overlooking Kew Gardens.

Highlights include 27 year old, James Blackshaw, from Bromley who began by playing in punk bands but is now being hailed by the BBC and critics as “as the new master of the 12 string guitar following in the footsteps of composer, John Fahey” and was the subject of a news feature on BBC Radio 4.

Blackshaw ,who has now released eight albums, produces sound that comes from only a twelve string guitar, and Journalist, Ian Kearey, explains that “he is making the instrument into as much of a symphony as possible.”
Other acts include, composer and performer, Steve Beresford, committed to free improvised music; Annie Whitehead, jazz trombone player, who has played with artists such as Elvis Costello and Chris Rea, and also teaches at London’s Centre for Young Musicians; and The National Jazz Trio of Scotland, featuring self taught bassist and guitarist, Bill Wells.
SonicRecycler5 presents a great line up of artists committed to the principles of recycling; reusing and reducing waste through their work in the musical field.
DJ sets by Ben Eshmade (Arctic Circle) and Fail HDJ featuring cutting edge electronica, classical and ambient sets
SonicRecycler Vis curated by Si-cut.db (aka Douglas Benford), a Brentford resident who has a passion for recycling diligently and only puts out a black bin bag once every six weeks. Si-cut.db is a producer, remixer, electronic & ambient musician & member of his local recycling group. He has performed at Mutek Fesitval, Canada; Ars Electronica (the most important festival for the digital arts world), Austria, Trans Mediale, Berlin & Turbine Hall, Tate Modern as part of the UBS weekend. He presents a regular show on Resonance FM & writes for Kultureflash, a free weekly newsletter covering contemporary culture. Si-cut.db records have been released on the BIPHOP & Ministry of Sound Record Labels.
There will also be a screening of The Age of Stupid from McLibel director Franny Armstrong, featuring Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance
