About: Jazz returns to watermans

Watermans is delighted to present, the last dates in the tour of percussionist and composer, Sandeep Raval one of the most versatile multi-disciplined instrumentalists performing in this country today. After training to play tabla in the Indian classical style, Sandeep worked as a session musician in the UK before acquiring a name as ‘composer’.

He is best known for composing and ‘conceptualizing’ performances around symphonic and world music instruments. Mosaic in Motion, is a live stage performances featuring the best of Eastern Percussion and Western Jazz where Sandeep will be joined by a group of well loved, respected and accomplished musicians, along with guest artists, Mahesh Vinayakram on vocals and Graham Roberts on classical guitar.

Sandeep’s other original live music concepts include Regroove the Globe, Blessing (co-writing with Paul McGrath & performing with a 60 piece symphony orchestra) and Nadopasna (worship through sound) staged live in Leicester. Mosaic in Motion tour 2010 is another such concept, showcasing a range of unusual percussion instruments such as the ‘hang drum’ (or UFO drum, as it is more commonly described), ‘Cajon drum’ and ‘Zen drum’.

Trained in Indian classical music, Raval, has performed as a session musician, writer and composer, including collaborating with James Asher on four albums, Tigers of the Raj (1998), Raising the Rhythms (1999), Colors of Trance (2000), Feet in the Soil 2 (2000), Drums on Fire (2003).

He has also performed with the inspiring and talented composer, Kuljit Bhamra, playing for the West End musicals, Bombay Dreams (2002) and The Far Pavilions (2005). Bhamra will be appearing as a special guest on Saturday 5th June show at Watermans.

The musicians accompanying the set in both days will be Chris Caldwell on saxophone,
Luke Szoltysek on drums, Heath Randall on bass, Jacob Stoney on keys/guitar and
Kiran Thakrar on Keys. For more information on the performances visit & You Tube for excerpts of the music.
