The Sapphires
On from 02 Mar 2011 till 12 Mar 2011
Barbican
by Belvoir & Black Swan State Theatre Company

Tickets: £16 - £28

About: The Sapphires

Australia’s hippest soul sisters perform the Motown hits that defined a generation, in the swinging musical sensation, The Sapphires.

Sing along to classics from soul legend Aretha Franklin (Think, Respect), the chart-topping singles of The Supremes (Stop in the Name of Love, Love Is Like A Heatwave) and Marvin Gaye’s signature song I Heard it Through the Grapevine with a live band.

Set in Vietnam, 1969 – Bombs are dropping and the world is exploding in protest. Back at the Tiki Club four Aboriginal sisters from the country catch the eye of a big city talent scout with their Supremes' cover band, and they’re off to sing for the troops on the front line. But the realisation of a lifelong dream to perform overseas isn’t quite what they had in mind.

This celebration of family joy and heartbreak tells the true story of The Sapphires as they shake it for the troops and push sibling love to its limits.

‘Energetic, passionate, heart-wrenching, uplifting, hilarious and engaging… bloody brilliant!’ Australian Stage
