The School for Scandal
On from 11 May 2011 till 18 Jun 2011
Barbican
by Deborah Warner

Tickets: £16 - £50

About: The School for Scandal

'Wounded myself in the early part of my life by the envenomed tongue of slander, I confess I have since known no pleasure equal to reducing others to the level of my own injured reputation.' Lady Sneerwell

A searing lampoon of a society obsessed by wit, fashion and public reputation. With its glorious cast of characters including Snake, Sir Benjamin Backbite, Lady Candour, and the Surface brothers, this is a timely revival of Sheridanís high-spirited, comic masterpiece.

Associate Director Deborah Warner returns to the Barbican Theatre following her 2005 sell-out success of Julius Caesar. Her recent London productions include Mother Courage (National Theatre, 2009), Messiah (ENO, 2009) and The Waste Land (Wiltonís Music Hall).

'[Warner] is making theatre that is an adventure, a journey of the mind, a discovery of other ages, other countries, other people, other minds.' The Sunday Times

Venue: Barbican Theatre
Performance time: 19:15 (14:15 on 21, 28 May and 4, 11, 16, 18 Jun)
