Suffragettes and Spies
A speech by Miss Margaret Roberts, the defeated MP for Dartford in 1949, and a code poem by French Resistance worker, Violette Szabo are just some of the people to feature in a production celebrating the centenary of International Women’s Day.
Three4All Theatre presents A Century of Great Women which will run in various venues throughout London during March, the Women’s History Month.
A cast of 10 actresses and singers will perform monologues and songs of famous and infamous women over the last century. The monologues are taken from diaries, letters, speeches, television interviews and autobiographies of diverse women from all over the globe.

Director of three4all theatre, Alison Mead, said: “Some of the characters chosen are perhaps not considered ‘great’, but all have made a difference in history in one way or another. They range from The Female Eunuch to the Iron Lady. It is my hope that this production will showcase how women have shaped history and spark debate.”

The Women are: Emmeline Pankhurst, Edith Cavell, Marie Stopes, Nancy Astor, Marie Curie, Vera Brittain, Eleanor Roosevelt, Violette Szabo, Martha Gellhorn, Judy Garland, Margaret Thatcher, Ethel Rosenburg, Rosa Parks, Marilyn Monroe, Iris Murdoch, Christine Keeler, Josephine Baker, Germaine Greer, Bette Davis, Phoolan Devi, Ellen Macarthur, Wangari Maathai, Anita Roddick, JK Rowling, Ann Sang Suu Kyi.
