About: All About My Mother

Pedro Almodóvar dedicated his celebrated film All About My Mother “to all actresses who have played actresses....To all the people who want to be mothers. To my mother.” Since the story is set in and around a theatre, this sparkling stage adaptation by Samuel Adamson (the first for which Almodóvar has given permission) is as apt as it is intriguing.

Pedro Almodóvar’s films include: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988 – Oscar nomination for best foreign language film); All About My Mother (Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director Award, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury Award at Cannes, French César for Best Foreign Film, Goya Award as best film of the year and a twelfth Annual European Film Award); Talk to Her (2002 – French César for Best Film and an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay); Volver (2006); Broken Embraces (2009).

Samuel Adamson is currently working on The Light Princess, a collaboration with Tori Amos for the National Theatre. Work for theatre includes: Breakfast at Tiffany's; Mrs Affleck from Ibsen’s Little Eyolf; Some Kind of Bliss; All About My Mother (winner of Whatsonstage Theatregoers' Best New Play Award 2008); Southwark Fair; Fish and Company; Pillars of the Community; Professor Bernhardi; A Doll's House; The Cherry Orchard; Three Sisters; Drink, Dance, Laugh and Lie; Grace Note; Clocks and Whistles.
