Tabard Theatre
by William Shakespeare
Genre(s): Drama, Classic

Tickets: £12.00 - £16.00

Tuesday 28 June to Saturday 16 July 2011

Cymbeline. An angry king. A scheming queen. Lovers, miscreants, hippies and an impending Italian invasion. And of course, a woman disguised as a page boy. A timeless Shakespearen romance, with the hilarity of Taming of the Shrew and the tragedy of King Lear.

The show is produced by Avanti, a new London-based theatre company, set up in 2011 to allow young talent to experience the professional theatre world as we know it, whilst making bold steps to create innovative and groundbreaking drama. Avanti seek to learn and to teach, to discover the new and rediscover the old. Above all, the company wants to provide the opportunity for the next generation to entertain, to inspire and to create.

Cymbeline, one of Shakespeare’s later plays, is regarded as one of his more unusual but unequivocally brilliant plays. Dealing with themes of innocence and jealousy, the play’s kaleidoscopic vigour combined with its reputation as a “problem play” makes it an ideal work for revival and reinterpretation, whilst remaining faithful to Shakespeare’s extraordinary vision.

Cast List:
Alex Critoph (Imogen), Jamie Fletcher (Guiderius), Rhys Jennings (Belarius), Spike Laurie (Posthumus/Cloten), Robert Metson (Caius Lucius), Hannah Miller (Pisanio), Rhiannon Neads (Cornelius/Philario), Davina Richards (Queen/Jupiter), Bertie Taylor-Smith (Arviragus) and Harry Williams (Iachimo). The actors are currently training or have recently graduated from LAMDA, Cambridge University, Leeds, Imperial, Oxford, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Mountview. We're also thrilled to announce that Ian Barritt will appear as King Cymbeline. Ian has acted with the RSC, the National, in the West End, made numerous screen appearances and most recently appeared as Prospero in the Tobacco Factory's production of The Tempest.
