About: Siamese Twins

Artes Escénicas Rayuela, A.C. and the Silver Lining Theatre Company present the cast of
the long awaited UK premiere of Argentinian playwright Griselda Gambaro’s masterpiece,
Siamese Twins at the Theatro Technis.
6-25 September, Theatro Technis, 7:30pm, Press Night is Wednesday 7 September; doors open
at 6:30pm.
Creative Team: Mara Lockowand and Jorge Perez Falconi (directors), Kostas Panagiotou (composer), Karen
Quigley (lightening designer), Sylwia Dobkoska (set designer).
At the centre of Siamese Twins are resourceful, selfish Lorenzo and naïve, trusting Ignacio; twins played by Rob
Witcomb and Fred Gray, who form the well-known archetypes of Cain and Abel. One brother’s envy leads him to subject his more successful and independent twin to cruelty and torture, and finally to conspire in bringing about his murder. Written against the backdrop of Argentina’s Dirty Wars, the play offers an unsettling look at oppression in society through dark comedy and grotesque characters.
Jay Worthy plays the peculiar, unnerving and often absurd 'Smily Man' fresh from his co-lead role in TV drama
'Fatal mission aired on National Geographic and Channel 5. While Emile Clarke, his right hand man in the
production plays the ever grim, obscure and implacable 'Nasal Man'.
Grahame Edwards, understudy to Tim Pigott-Smith as 'Frank' in Educating Rita last summer, plays the jaded and
lost character of 'Old Man' balanced by the 'Young Man', Scott Chambers whose character represents the new
generation and change.
Siamese Twins is one of Griselda Gambaro’s early masterpieces and Gwen Mackeith’s translation captures the
powerful black humour and harrowing metaphors. First performed in 1967, this is an early, yet startling brilliant,
work by the internationally acclaimed playwright.
This dynamic and highly physical production marks the first professional staging in English of Gambaro’s grotesque tragi-comedy. Gambaro has been described as ‘one of the most important playwrights of the 20th century’ (Catherine Boyle, King’s College London) and 'without doubt, one of the most innovative and powerful writers in the world today’ (Diana Taylor, NYU). Siamese Twins represents the culminating production of Out of the Wings; a three-year major AHRC-funded initiative at King’s College London, Oxford University and Queen’s University Belfast to bring new Spanish theatre translations to the British stage.
Mara Lockowandt and Jorge Perez Falconi direct. Perez Falconi has over twenty years of directing experience in
Mexico and achieved many national and international awards, his credits include El Camino Rojo a Sabaiba (2000)
and Los Negros Pájaros del Adiós by Oscar Liera; The Pope and the Witch by Dario Fo; Caracol y Colibrí by Sabina
Berman; and Roberto Zucco by Bernard-Marie Koltès; Mujeres Fraguando Sueños by Pati Doménech; and Woyzeck, by Georg Büchner. Lockowandt is the current artistic director of the Silver Lining Theatre Company, and has produced bold political theatre at Tara Arts, Amnesty International, the Etcetra Theatre and in America. They are joined bydesigners Karen Quigley and Sylwia Dobkowska, and composer Kostas Panagiotou from the doom metal bandPantheist and Erepia.
