During February 2006 a gang of armed robbers kidnapped a security guard and his family in order to gain access to a Tonbridge warehouse, from which they then successfully stole 53 million pounds. The robbery subsequently provoked a massive manhunt with hundreds of police searching all over the South East of England for the culprits. The robbers went into hiding….

Inspired by Britain's largest ever cash robbery, Michael Holland has written a gripping fictional drama about three such robbers. Stuck in a barn in the middle of a nation wide manhunt, the men pass the time with hilarious stories from their pasts and talk of their anticipated futures.

But the tensions and frustrations soon begin to show and their old school friendships are tested to the extreme.

Bob: We’ll be aright when it all dies down.

Charlie: When it all dies down! Are you f***ing sure? They chased Ronnie Biggs for 40 years and now keep him alive on a machine in Belmarsh so that he finishes his sentence! Wait ‘til it dies down’! That don’t happen, Bob, not when this much money goes missing. Poxy, stinking, f***ing money!

During June 2007 seven men and four women will stand trail for the robbery, all have pleaded not guilty. Once again the nation will be swept up in the exhilaration of big crime and big money.

Playwright Michael Holland served 20 years for armed robbery. Since leaving prison he has graduated with a degree from Greenwich University and established a successful career as a teacher, filmmaker and playwright.

Quotes from Two Up, Michael Holland’s previous play:

“Guilty of being an absolute classic.” Paul Nelson
“Lines that give the writing the ring of truth.” The Stage
“The writing shows a hard bitten sensibility…an excellent play.” Patrick Marmion
