About: The Artist

Having received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director & Best Actor, The Artist immerses the audience into the silent world of 20s Hollywood.

George Valentin is a big silent film star but with the advent of sound, his career begins to wither away as a new era approaches and no one wants to see an old star. Early on, he bumps into Peppy Miller, a wannabe starlet who eventually becomes the new hot thing, breaking out big with the talkies.

The Artist is essentially a love story, told through the gauze of the tragic downfall of an actor at the advent of technological progression. A tale that is just as relevant today as it was back in the 20s.

In a world where we're used to seeing films in colour, with sound, music, dialogue and even in 3D, The Artist is a staggeringly brave attempt to create a completely new black and white silent film.

Directed by Michel Hazanavicius and starring Bérénice Bejo and Jean Dujardin.

"Drained of noise and colour, The Artist might just be moving pictures, but pictures are seldom as moving as this one"
