About: In Darkness

Based on a true story of survival against the odds in the Nazi-occupied city of Lvov during WW2, Polish drama In Darkness tells the tale of Leopold – sewer worker by day and petty thief by night.

When a band of Jewish refugees fleeing the ghetto bribe him to hide them in the city’s sewers, his love of cash soon turns into a genuine desire to help them. In Darkness follows them as their attempts to evade capture grow increasingly desperate as the Nazis close in on their underground hideout.

Nominated for best foreign language film at this year’s Oscars, In Darkness is heralded as one of Agnieszka Holland’s finest films.

Screened in Polish with English subtitles.

"Agnieszka Holland's bluntly realistic Holocaust drama stands apart from other all other attempts to film unfilmable events"
