About: The Beggars OPera

London College of Music is back at Watermans with a production showcasing the talents of the graduates of their BA Musical Theatre course.
The course encourages an intellectual and practice based interrogation of the work and ‘workings’ within musical theatre, and develops skills for students who wish to enter the professional world of performance as an ‘actor-singer’. An important feature of the Musical Theatre course, is that in the graduating year, student performers get a chance to perform in major musical productions under the guidance of professionals from the music industry, in order for them to get a ‘disciplined and truthful’ insight into the performance industry.
In January Watermans is hosting two shows: One is an old favourite, The Beggars Opera (16-19 January) followed by a new piece: Quills: The Musical, based on the life of William Shakespeare, which will have its World Premiere on 23 January and run till 26 January in the theatre.
The Beggars Opera is a satirical ballad opera, written by John Gay in the early 18th Century and remains popular today. Directed by Mhairi Grealis, it features musical direction by Ian Macmillan (additional arrangements by Ilona Sekacz). This production contains scenes of a sexual nature and is suitable for aged 12+.Tickets are very reasonable at £10 and concessions for students and young people as well as Senior Citizens and people on benefits are a snip at £5.

These productions are great fun and showcases emerging talent. Tickets are available to buy online or by telephone from our Box Office.
