About: Thrasher

A white knuckle ride of betrayal, debt and lost innocence

'a real buzz has developed around the writer and his work. He has a real ear for dialogue and creating characters…The structure of the play is intriguing in itself…the play manages to be at times both funny and weirdly menacing; there’s a sense of foreboding that permeates the piece as McKee steers these characters towards a horribly dark place. Longmore utilises the intimacy of the Studio space impressively, and while the writing is not without its flaws, this is a fine piece which can only add to McKee’s burgeoning reputation.'
EXEUNT – 4 stars

‘The performances are quietly contemplative and the writing superb’

‘a clever, comic and touching drama’

THE PUBLIC REVIEWS – 4 and a half Stars

'Following the success of Burnt, which debuted at the Contact last year, Conor McKee returns to Manchester with his new play, Thrasher…The chemistry between all the actors is fantastic…completely compelling…The minimalist set reflects the fast moving nature of the script, and the cast make great use of vast stage space..a slick, interesting and very entertaining piece of theatre'

'The cast performances are powerful and full of pathos…The stage design is perfectly subtle…This theme is reinforced by Michael Cretu’s score in which the depth of the bass from the strings brings emotional gravity, whilst its distinctly Hispanic feel combines to give a weightless ephemeral quality, teetering between the two throughout, a motif the director has artfully conveyed in every aspect of the play…Thrasher is McKee’s long awaited second play which I think was a great success….The pace and delivery is stupendous…A tight and succinct production with some very clever and inventive plot devices & direction.'
