Theatre Delicatessen History

Theatre Delicatessen was formed in 2007 by theatre directors Roland Smith, Frances Loy and Jessica Brewster.

Their productions have been met with significant critical acclaim, and including bold revivals of Phillip Ridley's Mercury Fur and David Hare's Fanshen, alongside immersive productions of A Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Theatre Delicatessen also developed the devised physical theatre piece Pedal Pusher which tells the true story of the Lance Armstrong, Marco Pantani and Jan Ullrich – three professional cyclists battling to become champion of the Tour de France. Pedal Pusher was Time Out Critics' Choice of the Year 2009, transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010.

In Autumn 2010, Theatre Delicatessen conceived and curated Theatre Souk where 15 different theatre companies and artists created at theatrical marketplace in a five storey building in the heart of London's shopping district. Described by The Londonist as "the underground theatre hit of the year", and in a 5 star review What's On Stage said, "Theatre Souk offers a tremendous experience of innovative and experimental theatre and a fantastic evening out."

In January 2011, Theatre Delicatessen staged their last production at Picton Place, and all-female reinterpretation of A Doll's House.

Theatre Delicatessen are currently resident in 3-4 Picton Place thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors Great Portland Estates.

"Fear not: pop-up theatre gurus Delicatessen are at hand."
Time Out (for Theatre Souk)
