London Theatre Workshop History

London Theatre Workshop was founded in 2012 by Artistic Director Ray Rackham and Sarah Shelton. They both felt South West London lacked a smaller, Off-Off Broadway theatre, seating between 50 and 100 people, to showcase classic material, develop and workshop shows prior to moving into larger commercial locations or tours.

When the opportunity came to develop a smaller theatre and arts workshop space above a pub in Fulham, they were both immediately interested as it represented the chance to develop not only a space, but a concept, from scratch.

London Theatre Workshop opened its doors on 10th March with Adam Gwon's Ordinary Days, its first musical offering. Critical and audience responses have been exceptional:

"London Theatre Workshop only came about because of energy, lifeblood and passion... as Artistic director Ray Rackham sought to find a theatrical home... It's a very different take on your usual pub theatre... the pub is the sort of place where they offer to recharge your phones for you, and even sell ace cakes alongside coffee and full meals. The theatre itself is a stunning little boutique space. [Rackham] has poured his heart, soul and labour into it – and it shows" – Mark Shenton – The Stage

"...the venue is a rare pleasure to visit; a huge cut above what one would expect from a 'pub theatre', I suspect I will be making several return visit as the Workshop's promising inaugural season continues" – Kevin Sherwin – Broadwayworld

"The London Theatre Workshop is a beautiful fringe venue. The pub is stylish and welcoming... the actual theatre is impressive, unlike most fringe venues the stage isn't squashed. The theatre could easily become one of London's top fringe venues" – Andre Tomlins – West End Frame

"...really does set the scene for what we can expect from this new venue in the heart of Fulham; quality, excellence and entertainment" Skye Crawford – Fringe Review
