Limehouse Nights

Midweek Matinees Weds 2nd and 9th June 2pm
£8 to £12

Following annual sell-out productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
for the last four years; with transfers to Soho Theatre, Glasgow
Arches and New York; Kandinsky, one of the UK’s most significant
emerging theatre companies and two time winners of the prestigious
Sunday Times Playwriting Award, premiere their latest production
Limehouse Nights in the old Limehouse Town Hall this May.

Stepping off the Docklands Light Railway, audiences begin a journey
back to 1918, to the dingy, rundown backwater that was Limehouse:
London’s original Chinatown. Based on a true story, this site-specific
production is an unflinching examination of cultures colliding in the
East End.

For Lee Chee Kong and his Irish wife Mita, Limehouse is simply home.
Amused to find themselves the object of Orientalist fascination, they
are happy to welcome curious British friends. But when one of these
friends, a glamorous young actress, accidentally dies of an overdose,
someone must be blamed and their lives are turned upside down.

Barefaced Theatre's new self-devised production of 'Whore'

'What it comes down to is this: the grocer, the butcher, the baker, the merchant, the landlord, the druggist, the liquor dealer, the policeman, the doctor, the city father and the politician — these are the people who make money out of prostitution, these are the real reapers of the wages of sin." – Polly Adler

Come and indulge your senses at Barefaced's provocative new production. Taking inspiration from 4 prolific prostitutes from history this immersive journey will recount their dark, and at times, humorous stories.

Performances of 'Whore' take place Tuesday 9th – Saturday 13th November at the Resistance Gallery, Bethnal Green, E2 9RF. Tuesday is press/preview night and there are performances at 7pm & 8.30pm Wednesday – Friday and the audience will have 30 minutes after the show to purchase drinks and explore the venue themselves. Saturday includes a Pay What You Can Matinee at 4pm on a first come basis – please email thomas@barefacedtheatre.com for more details. Saturday has two evening shows, one standard at 6.30pm and a Gala Night Performance which includes signed programme, Barefaced Goodie-bag, free drink and free entry into after-party within the venue itself*.

Set in the streets of Cristiania (Oslo) in 1890, Hunger is a new adaptation of Knut Hamsun's classic novel by Hobo Theatre, an arts company specialising in making theatre in unconventional venues. Presented in the compact setting of the E5 Bakehouse, in London Fields, from 13th May 2014, bakery visitors will become travellers to another time, another place…

If Hunger is the subject of our story, then what better place could there be to taste the wonder of our daily bread than E5, one of London’s most popular artisan bakeries. Its unique intimacy makes the border between performer and audience melt away, creating a truly shared experience that merges music, theatre and food at their finest.

Guests at Hunger can expect a two-course traditional Scandinavian meal at the conclusion of the performance, with hearty soup, cheese and, of course, bread to start – followed by sweet pancakes with fruit preserve and a refreshing glass of schnapps!
