MOZART & SALIERI / A NIGHT IN VIENNA

27 June

Time Zone Theatre presents their acclaimed opera double-bill

MOZART & SALIERI An opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov

¡°Villainy and genius can never be compatible?¡° The opera follows the apocryphal legend that Antonio Salieri poisoned his rival and fellow composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart out of jealousy over his talent. Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) used the short story Mozart and Salieri by Alexander Pushkin as libretto, which also inspired Peter Shaffer¡¯s famous stage play and film Amadeus. Rimsky-Korsakov¡¯s rarely performed two-hander is a character study, it is a close-up of Salieri¡¯s tormented mind. He is portrayed as a generous man who is torn between admiration for his fellow composer and his own jealousy.

In a new English translation and staged by an award-winning team around stage director Pamela Schermann and musical director Andrew Charity, this original and innovative production will captivate its audience, making us witnesses, if not conspirators, of Salieri¡¯s plan to poison Mozart.

A NIGHT IN VIENNA A Mozart-Medley with a libretto by Pamela Schermann

The second half of the evening will show our new programme ¡°A Night in Vienna¡°. Set in the reception area of the infamous Vienna Grand Hotel, three people become entangled in a web of love, affairs and intrigues. A fast-paced journey through the night with songs from Mozart¡¯s most loved operas Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Cosi fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro. Accompanied by piano and presented in a fresh interpretation with new English lyrics – Mozart as you¡¯ve never heard it before! And remember: What happens in the Vienna Grand...

Cast: Ren¨¦ Bloice-Sanders (Salieri/Baritone), Aidan Coburn (Mozart/Tenor),

Nina Kopparhed (Viola/Soprano).

Musical director: Andrew Charity

Stage director: Pamela Schermann

Out of the Darkness

Imagine that your biggest mistake became all you ever thought about. Imagine that each time you thought about that moment, those vivid recollections came to life and replayed for all to see. Imagine the overwhelming feeling of helplessness that such a predicament would bring. Well, in the room occupied by Danny and Michelle this is exactly what occurs.

Both couldn’t be any more different. Danny is a straight talking 19 year old, son of an immigrant cleaner and an aspiring artist, whilst Michelle is an isolated, oft-neglected daughter of church leaders. When they meet in this room that only exists to replay their darkest memories, they find common ground in one thing – their guilt.

It is in this room that Danny and Michelle are involuntary exposed. It is in the room that they are made to face their pasts. As long as Danny and Michelle remain in this room, they will be confronted again and again by their past mistakes.

Will Danny and Michelle ever find the way out?

My Mind Is Free

Waterloo East Theatre
by Rah Rah Theatre Company

Tickets: £10 - £12

27 July – Edinburgh Fringe 2017 Preview Show

My Mind is Free

A play which addresses the appalling fact that 125 new victims per hour fall prey to modern slavery.

‘You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again you did not know!’ William Wilberforce.

A powerful, theatrical interpretation of the degradations of human trafficking. It tells the interlinked stories of four people trafficked to and within the UK and their horrifying tales of abuse, exploitation and enslavement. The production consists of a small, strong ensemble cast. It uses a mixture of physical theatre and multi–role playing to portray the epic journey and terrible risks that desperate people will go to in the pursuit of what they believe to be a better life, only to find that they are then exploited, ending up in a far worse position than when they started.

‘The performance of the actors was incredible..... Long live this theatre production’

Anti-Slavery International

‘no matter what your existing awareness of human trafficking is, My Mind is Free is definitely an important show to see.’ FemaleArts ****

“I defy anyone not to be moved by it.’ WOW Kent

Rah Rah Community Theatre Company has teamed up with The Salvation Army and anti-trafficking charity, Hope For Justice, to bring its production of MY MIND IS FREE by Sam Hall to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We are delighted to be doing our preview for Edinburgh in London at Waterloo East Theatre. The company first toured the production in 2015, receiving 4 and 5 star reviews. It was nominated for “Best stage play” in the Human Trafficking Foundation’s Anti-Slavery Media awards 2016 and the award ceremony, to which we were invited, was hosted by the Home Secretary at the House of Commons.
