Controlled Chaos present
Romeo & Juliet
By William Shakespeare

It is summertime, the sun is shining, the drinks are flowing and Pride is in full swing.
The streets are full and bustling with joyous revellers, but beneath these harmonious goings on a simmering age old feud begins to come to the boil.

A violent brawl between the houses of Capulet and Montague re-opens the bitter rivalry of both families. On either side of the divide stand two young lovers who will risk all to be together. Will their union bring peace and unity to the warring clans or will they pay the ultimate price?

“These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,Which, as they kiss, consume.”

Controlled Chaos return to Waterloo East Theatre after their debut production of 'Much Ado About Nothing' in 2017.

Reviews from previous productions:

A strong and supportive cast each had moments of sparkling stage presence, and director Dylan Lincoln clearly cares about the importance of Shakespeare’s carefully created characters. It is well-worth a watch – The Spy In The Stalls

This is a production full of natural charm and humour – well worth a look – Fairy Powered Productions

A story of treachery, ambition and love, The Tempest is a play that requires close attention. Prepare to enter Prospero’s illusion that “We are such stuff that dreams are made on” to be compensated with a beautiful tale, played by a wonderful cast – The Up Coming

Metamorphoses 2
Inspired by Ovid
Directed by Kasia Róýycki

Following a sell-out run last year, London's beloved, vignette-style production inspired by Ovid's 'Metamorphoses' comes back this summer! It will consist of 5 fantastical, multi-layered and poignant plays – stories of love (often unrequited), power of the arts, double punishment, gender identity, the interactions of gods and mortals, loss of speech and, most of all, transformation! This original show featuring elements of visual, physical, devised and experimental theatre as well as live music will create – yet again – a unique experience for the audience!

PRAISE FOR METAMORPHOSES 1:

[4****Review by Michael Davis for Breaking The Forth Wall]
'Given the numerous ideas that ‘metamorphosis’ conjures, there’s no reason why there shouldn’t be subsequent festivals based on this theme.'

'Based to various degrees on the original stories [by Ovid], Metamorphoses at Bread and Roses Theatre is comprised of five very different plays on the subject of change – all directed by Kasia Róýycki, artistic director of Off The Cliff Theatre.'

Scheming media moguls. A UK government at war with Brussels. Newspapers run like propaganda pamphlets. That's right – it's the 1980s!

Meet Lambert Le Roux, a South African businessman hell bent on acquiring the British press from the foppish, upper-class elite. It's the revolution Fleet Street hasn't been waiting for. But can the British people trust a millionaire media man from the Southern Hemisphere with the ownership of their beloved papers? The answer isn't exactly front page news.

This scorching satire, originally starring Anthony Hopkins and Bill Nighy, was first performed at the National Theatre and won the 1985 London Standard Best Play Award.

LVM presents
Midsummer Nights Dream
By William Shakespeare

Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum. Founded 1863 would later be renamed Broadmoor Hospital.

Treating hundreds of patients, many serial killers, schizophrenics, murderers, psychopaths, and many suffering from depression. Charles Bronson, Ronald Kray and Peter Sutcliffe where just a few of the patients to be treated at Broadmoor.

Treatments ranged from medication to electro shock treatment. Dramatherapy was later introduced, and would see patients acting out Shakespeare's most loved plays.

In the mid to late 1900’s the RSC visited Broadmoor and performed for the patients.
A hospital-wide collaborative enterprise was activated. It involved staff, and called for advice and practical help from many patients.

Some actors, perhaps too apprehensive for their own safety, didn’t join in. Nor did every patient, for reasons un-recorded, want to see the plays.

"Clare Higgings expresses the most extreme revelation, when she wants, in future, to rehearse shakespeare with Broadmore patients. She and the rest of us were reminded of the importance of playing..."- Sir Ian McKellan

"Like Spitting Image without the latex and with much better songs... Full-on political satire that doesn't take itself seriously... The low budget exterior belies massive talent, wit and ingenuity... very fast and clever comedy."North West End ☆☆☆☆

"Political-comedy with plenty of bite... like an episode of the Thick of It, only laced with LSD."
Opening Night ☆☆☆☆

"Squeezes out every last sweetness, sourness, bitterness and zest from its protagonists' plentiful juicy foibles and flaws." Now Then Manchester

Liberty Rides Forth – a new musical
By David Kent

Liberty, a mischievous drag queen, unexpectedly springs to life from the pages of Trevor's new novel. Arriving at Waterloo East Theatre via the Edinburgh and Brighton Fringes, this is a brand new full length musical full of toe-tapping tunes and delicious comedy.

“…a good example of some of the great things about modern musical theatre.” Broadway Baby

“David Kent’s script combines smart one-liners and exuberant lyrics with a multi-layered story;” Edinburgh Reporter

“David Kent's pop-based songs have the catchiness and gently ironic tone of Liza-era Kander and Ebb.“ The Stage
