About Pentameters

Pentameters Theatre was founded by Léonie Scott-Matthews in 1968 in a disused skittle alley in the basement of the Freemason's Arms, Hampstead in August 1968. It moved to its present location 28 Heath Street, NW3 6TE in 1971 – the heart of Hampstead village – and is nestled among an abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs to have pre/post-theatre dinner or drinks.

It is one of the most respected fringe theatres in London and presents in-house productions of classical revivals and new plays to alternative comedy, music and poetry events.

Léonie was awarded a Camden Good Citizen Award for her outstanding work for the community and was also honoured as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for her contribution to the Arts.

Léonie returned to acting nearly two years ago, appearing in plays by Noel Coward and as Lady Margaret in My Husband and I and The Landlady in Goldy, a celebration of the life of Oliver Goldsmith by Bill Leahy, directed by Bernard Lawrence. She appeared in The Unrest Cure by Simon Godziek and Rob Groves as Mrs Thomas, a play that received excellent reviews and as Mrs Jones in Unremembered, a film about to be released by Mouse in House Productions. She recently launched her one-woman show, A Life in Fringe Theatre.
